The 2009 Emmys Fashion Police

For this year's 2009 Emmy Awards, I eagerly grabbed my bag of popcorn, got into my comfy pj's and jumped on the couch awaiting the fashions that would grace my TV screen.... I have to tell you, I was forced to wake myself up a few times due to the snoozy styles that passed me by. I almost thought I was watching a high school's prom rather than designer clad celebs. Obviously I was disappointed but there were some great hits that gave me a "finally! A starlet who hasn't lost her fab mind!" Besides for the teen queens that poorly arrived, many stars just played it safe. So here are the best and worst dressed at this years Emmys.

Leighton Meester in Bottega Veneta
She looks fabulous in this glamorous dress. The simplicity of the white with a touch of detail on the shoulders, messy and sexy yet old hollywood hair with the perfect accessory-red lips.. is Fantastic!

Kate Walsh in J. Mendel
Kate looks effortless in this fresh take of the new grey. Its light and airy and her hair is done just as simple. Her face glows without too much makeup. She's a definite hit!

Michelle Williams in unknown.
Who cares who the designer is on this dress. Michelle looks better than ever in this vibrant and happy color for her age. One would think that such a hue is better left to the younger generations, but the saturation of the shade and satin fabric actually bring out her eyes and make her skin look as smooth as butter, giving her a youthful glow. Love it!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Another great TV star in my favorite color. Again the richness of this color on her skin and contrasted with her dark hair is nothing to laugh about. Maybe Julia is a bucket of hysterics on her show, but here, its all serious fashion!

January Jones in Versace
BEST DRESSED. Thats right, I rate her as the best dressed of the night. For me it was a toss up between Leighton Meester and January, but January takes the red carpet on this one. When watching the red carpet fashions, I am always looking for something new and I am a big sucker for the WOW factor. And this Versace number has got it! The details, notice the designer signed her name with that "V", is fabulous. Its bold, yet elegantly done. Bravo January!

Hayden Panettiere in J. Mendel
J. Mendel sure had his hands full with celebs for this years Emmys, and well done it was. Everyone loves to show up in red. Its classy and totally Hollywood. But this piece on Hayden is such a fresh approach to the red carpets usual red dresses. The weightless fabric and cut of this dress makes the red look like a breath of fresh air. The layering and one shoulder cap is a knock out on this blond stunner. What a way to put a twist on the classics!

Ginnifer Goodwin in Yves Saint Laurent
Purple was the "it" shade on this years Emmys red carpet, but most were done poorly. Ginnifer showed up in this heart stopping ensemble. This litterally made me pause my dvr and just stare at the screen for ten minutes. The excellent hue of magenta purple, and the heart shaped neckline is feminine and sexy and absolutely all what we dream about Hollywood starlets. I LOVE the way the waist comes in and then casually drapes out like a waterfall of purple silk. Ginnifers short hair, minimal makeup and stud earrings are the perfect stage for that insane clear stone necklace. This one's an incredible look into this falls future fashions.

Debra Messing in Michael Kors
Now this might sound a little rude, but firstly, congrats to Debra for arriving at the red carpet in something that, to me, is NOT a miss. I never really loved her show ups, but this one is great. The hair is so fashion forward, and fresh, nothing too fussy and the modern shade of red with its subtle beading is fantastic. One shoulder? Who doesn't know that it's a major hit in the fashion world right now?

And now for the WORST DRESSED. This is just my take on the red carpet failures, so feel free to comment and let me know if you totally agree or think I fell of the moon. Either way I stick to my style guns on these.

Blake Lively in Valentino.
I can't recall the last time I thought that a Valentino was a miss...I think never. But this time, Blake did this one all wrong. The fact that the dress is red is sexy enough, the low cut is also a bit risky, but Valentino knows what he's doing! I think the fact that it was done on Blake, who I have yet to see as a classy starlet just gives a slutty image. Don't get me wrong, I love Blake Lively, and I love her style, but she still hasn't hit the class level of say, Kate Winslet. And can someone tell me what she was thinking with the hair? A High pony'd ass long braid? Paired with the lipstick red and super low cut, my verdict is TOTAL SLUT.

Heidi Klum in Marchesa.
Oh how I am Heidis biggest fan, ESPECIALLY when she comes preggers to the red carpet. There is no one who can pull off a bun in the oven like Heidi. But this one? I think the problem on this one was that she did a mermaid cut and super long which totally accentuated the bump. I know that that is what Heidi does when she's pregnant, but the proportions here aren't right; a big ball on a long narrow stick. In my opinion, just doesn't work.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa
I love Marchesa. Her designs are always uber feminine and romantic. But this piece is a designers mishap! The skin baring...river that flows down Olivias middle and bottom half of fabric shmates is an unfortunate disaster. It seriously looks like a dress dragged out of the trash that was ripped in half. Marchesa is known for her fantastic technique of meshing together fabulous fabrics but the skirt just resembles left over scraps. Its a total fashion tragedy.

Mila Kunis in Monique Lhullier
Yea, so this is what I meant in my intro when I said a lot of them looked like prom dresses. The tulle princess dress just doesn't pair up well with a smart and sophisticated star like Mila. The color otherwise I love. It's rich and mature, but she just looks like a teen at her dance.

WORST DRESSED Padma Lakshmi in unknown
And we don't ever want to know the name of this designer! I can't even call this one a disaster, its a joke! The entire look from head to toe just made me fall on the floor and roll over with hysterics. I mean, is this for real? Not only do I find Padma, unattractive, she also brought more failed attention to herself with this cheap looking dress. First let's attack the shade of purple she used. I'll give her a single point for going for the "it" color, but what a ashy hue. Yuck. Second, the shoulder knots look like something I tried on my t-shirts in high school and the fabric is trashy.... and now for the worst part...WHAT in the world made her look at her dining room table and say "can someone pass me that bouquet of roses, I think it would look darling draped over my hip" ???? Don't even get me started on the 80 year old hair. Padma! Stick to cooking and don't attempt fashion again until you've learned from the pros. And leave the flower shop at home!

Christina Applegate in Basil Soda.
Ok love this girl, love the blue, but hate the cheap detailing and again..prom look of this number. Not much to say about this other than, sorry Christina, you're a doll but this was a miss.

Drew Barrymore in Marchesa
PLEASE DONT ATTACK ME PEOPLE. I don't hate this dress at all. On the contrary, I love it...a few years ago. I am just so tired of seeing this dress on the red carpet. It's been done way too many times before, by Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz, twice. Its done, its over. And the really pale hue on Drew's skin is great but disappears because she needed to wear her signature deep red lips to bring something out. Not loving this. But give her points for at least missing with class.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler in Donna Karan
OMG For real? I really think I made a wrong turn on my way to the Emmys and ended up at the high school prom. Sorry for sounding so repetitive but this is an absolute failure. The glittery gold combined with the stretchy fabric and draping down the middle, is just a recipe for trashy.

Kim Kardashian in Ina Soltani.
This is very JLo. Which I can see why we all would admire JLo's sexy style. But it's so a few years ago, and Kim, Leave the hoop earrings at home for a music awards or something ok? Plus the ginourmous hoops dont work with the slick hair do. Common people, lets bring some class to the red carpet!

Mary Louise Parker in idk.
Another prom dress...actually I change that to grade school dance dress. Its too teen, too mall, too fashion uneducated.

Rose Byrne in Valentino.
Love this valentino dress. I think it's more Oscar worthy than Emmy's and I think the miss here is the hair. The dress is fabulous on its own that the boring shoulder length hair do is just distracting and makes her look like another teen queen.

All in all I think there were some fabulous looks on the carpet, but the worst dress pages in the tabloids will be a few pages too long. In this economy, fashion is what we can do to cheer ourselves up and take risks with! And I think the financial safe playing made it's way to the Emmy's and was a big bore. Hopefully celebs will really bring it to the Oscars!

Like The Back Of Your Hand

The number one thing to give away a womans age is her hands. You've seen those botox filled foreheads and plumped up restylane lips. But have you looked south to their diamond covered fingers?
Our hands age the fastest due to a few reasons, the first one being we use them the most. Our hands muscles and skin move more than those on our faces. Age spots also known as liver spots and wrinkles caused by free radicals are the tell take signs that we are aging.
When looking for a hand cream, you want to make sure that vitamin E is a key ingredient. This powerful vitamin helps fight aging, and its antioxidants protect against those nasty free radicals. Mositurizing every day is a life long fact engraved in womens brains but many negect their hands. It also doesnt hurt to use a sugar based hand scrub once a week. For a home made scrub, combine lemon, which can brighten your skin giving it a youthful glow, olive oil known for its healthy benefits, and sugar.
Below are some brands of hand creams that consumers, including myself have tested and reviewed about.
Vaseline Intensive Rescue Healing Cream $6.49
Their commercial where they give the cream to hard working Alaskans is a good marketing tool to luring viewers to believe its seriously intensive. But is it?
Some testers say that it does the job of healing dry skin, but many including myself dont seem to love the watery consistency which is not what you'd expect when watching the commercial.
Gold Bond Ultimate Skin Therapy Lotion with Shea Butter $8.99
This brand known for its skin creams, has one good product on their hands. It got high ratings from most consumers, claiming that its rich texture is not greasy and great for cuticles, rough feet, knees and elbows. This is my number one pick. I use it all the time. It absorbs quickly and leaves a silky soft feeling. It is very thick so if you prefer less rich formulas, this isn't for you. My best tip for rough feet, is to apply a rediculous thick coat and sleep overnight with socks. You will wake up with brand new skin on your walkers!
Kiehl's Unusually Rich-But Not Greasy At All-Hand Cream with SPF 10 $15.50
Yup, that is the real name and to some it is misleading because claims are, that it is actually not that rich. Instead, more watery than expected. But alot of users like it's subtle pleasant fragerant and athletic women love it for its SPF. Some say that it's not worth the pricey tag and not fit for winter months.
Crab Tree & Evelyn La Source Hand Therapy Cream $14
With its beautiful packaging and old fashioned metal tube this cream is one to be picked up quickly by women. But when dry skin got a dose, complaints were a long list, from feeling like crisco and leaving a slimy residue, to having a awful after stench. Good thing its wrapped up like pretty puppy, otherwise this cream would not sell.
Eucerine Plus Intensive Repair Hand Cream $5.29

Women went gaga over this fantastic moisturizer, even after reporting that it takes a few minutes to absorb. And the PLUS in the name must be referring to the fact that there is no need to reapply after washing hands. I give this one a thumbs up for being a classic good ol' hand cream.

Style Savvy

Eric Daman has made his mark as the male model who has more to offer. As a young fashion lover in Michigan, he moved to Paris to become a model, no suprise if you catch a glimpse of his dashing good looks. He quickly made his way up to styling where his true talents were meant to blossom and began working for movies such as assisting on the decadent wardrobe for Sex and the City. At his current position as the stylist for Gossip Girl, Eric Daman knows a thing or two about the latest trends presenting them to the public before it hits magazines, not to mention completely edging it with absurdly delicious ensembles that have made their way into mainstream fashion. There is no question that he was the mastermind behind trends like the headband when he laid them on Blaire in every episode.

But I choose Eric Daman as fashion king of the month for his latest project with Charlotte Russe. "Recently Charlotte Russe brought me on as a creative consultant. I know the clothes on Gossip Girl can seem unattainable, but I'm a big believer that you can get the look for less. And it doesnt have to be that look in particular-one of the things I like about Charlotte Russe is that there are so many options, and the price points are low: You can be a rebel one day and an Upper East Sider the next" he tells Teen Vogue. And who doesn't love having your own stylist for a fraction of the price?! Eric Daman is your man, and Charlotte Russe is your closet.

End of Summer

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've wrote, and frankly because it was summer, and summer is a time to relax. Its been one long vacation from my beloved blog but I am ready to come back. The long hot days, pool get togethers, and fabulous summer brunches have been scrumptious. Starting my own vegetable garden filled with summer blossoms has been a great learning experience. But I am so ready for my fave seasons of fall and winter. The suns rays will pull back, shining down just enough to beam glows on the dew covered winter leaves. The clouds will gently roll in for days of rain when you can cozy up to a warm bed, or cook a homemade stew on the stove. And whats better than the holidays. Thanksgiving being my favorite is what I am waiting for. The decorations, guests and delcious warming food cant get any better than on Thanksgiving. So lets not frown upon the end of summer, yet smile at the coziness that is about to befall us.
