Phillip Lim the designer for 3.1 Phillip Lim is now a household name in the fashion industry. And he has A-Listers lining up to every one of his shows wanting to see what the humble designer is calling cool these days. And humble he is. "It's just pretty. It's not trying to be anything." He says. And that is exactly the picture he paints on his Fall 2008 RTW collection. This is the story I read off the runway.
It's a story of a girl living in the off trendy soho village. She spends her mornings visiting the coffee shop reading the independent paper. Her days running an art gallery, and her nights socializing at smart people parties. She is independent but still looking for her quirky love. She chooses clothing that expresses her quietly chic lifestlye. She purchases old vintage purses. And wears her grandmothers art deco jewelry. Her lips are stained in the falls pigments of autumn reds and earthy bricks. Her face is framed with warm gold statment artistic necklaces, and urban madeline collars. She doesnt wear clothing. She wears pieces. And it all looks just as Phillip Lim puts it "..not trying to be anything."
